Extra Meridians

What do you think about the extra meridians? Each one has your own indications, crossing and connection points. The text have never mentioned about the treatment by extra meridians. Is it used in China?
For example, the points Gongsun Sp 4, connection point of Chong Mai and Lieque Lu 7, connection point of Ren Mai, can be used to treat gynecological diseases? Are the extra meridians points important and effective in the treatment?
