I couldn't understand the difference between essence and qi.I feel that presence of essence is necessary for formation of qi.Is that correct?but functionally speaking, their functions seem quite similar, unless that the functions of qi seem more extensive. What is the use of distintion between qi and essence?

Please tell the functions of Qi and those of essence, and try to compare them one by one.

Then try to compare the nature and the characteristics of them and see the difference.
