Hi tutor.
Second Traditional Chinese Medicine the cold has the feature of to stagnate and to blockate the smooth flow of Qi and blood. In case of bi sindrome, there are pain, and is necessary to restore the flow of qi and blood and to remove pathogenic factor. Here on west is comom to use ice to treat pain, but in my view it increase the stagnation and to make worse the problem. Am I correct? Do you use ice to treat pain in China?

Hi Wilson,
Yes for sure we also use ice to treat pain in China!
Of course we treat acute pain with ICE, not for BI-Syndrome.

To think that with the sprain or contusion of the soft tissues, the local region will be blocked by the swelling caused by the oozing of fluid, so where's the smooth flow of Qi?

With Ice, the oozing could be getting better, so there'll be less swelling in the location.

It doesn't need to worry about the worsening of the stagnation, the ice won't be used for long, only 24 hours, so afterwards, the heat compress can be also given.
Maybe the heat compress could be given a bit later, 30, or 40 hours after the sprain.

Here I want to stress, pain dosen't mean Bi-Syndrome!!!

Hi Tutor
Tanks for your repaly.
I refered about bi sindrome. I agree to use ice in sprain and contusion, but here several people apply ice in cronic pain (bi sindrome), even in old people. for instance in periarthriti of the shoulder. My question is if it don't make worse the obstruction?
Best regards
Wilson

If it's only the temporary use of the ice, it would be not much harm, but the long-term use is certainly harmful, or we should be specifying, worsening the obstruction, in line with traditional Chinese medicine.
