Dear Sir or Madam:

The editing work is being offered by International TCM Publication Program Office of People’s Medical Publishing House (PMPH), the leading medical publisher of China. The International TCM Publication Program cooperatively set up by three organizations followed. World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), WHO Collaborating Center for the Promotion & Translation of WHO Publications (China), and People’s Medical Publishing House (PMPH). In the program, we plan to publish 1000 publications in English and other languages. We welcome all kinds of relevant experts, including TCM practitioners, faculties and students, to join in our program to work as authors, translators and editors.

Clinical Practice Series contain 22 books on some most commonly seen topics in Western clinical practice of Chinese medicine. It features a selection of commonly-encountered diseases, with each volume consisting of two related topics. A wide range of illnesses are covered in this series – including internal medicine, gynecological and skin disorders.

Now some titles have already been translated from Chinese to English. Before they get published, we need professional English native editors with Chinese medicine background to do more editing work. Please find the details of Job Description, Payment and Expecting Time.

EDITING WORK on a ROUGH TRANSLATION TEXT of CHINESE MEDCINE

Job description: You receive the rough translation texts, and edit them into smoothly flowing English texts, which can reach the standards for publication. You check the rough translation texts against the original Chinese texts in the same files above; and also verify that the translator correctly used PMPH guidelines ie, preferred terminology, herb lists with Chinese, Pinyin and Latin, etc. You will also take care of grammatical correction, ie, making decisions about changing sentence order, deleting redundancies, etc.

Qualifications: You should be able to read Chinese, be a native (or nearly so) English-speaker, have a formal educational background in English (a bachelor’s degree is sufficient), and have an educational and/or professional background in Chinese medicine.

Payment: 120 – 150 RMB (about 15 – 18.75 USD) per 1000 Chinese characters (if the original text is in English, the total character count will be calculated as the total # of English words divided by 1.2), depending on how difficult a job the translator leaves you. PMPH will wire you the payment in USD in 30 days after you are given the Declaration Letter of Acceptance.

Expecting Time: Averagely, an entire book is expected to be finished in 60 to 90 days, depending on the amount of Chinese characters. The deadline will be written in the contract after negotiation between you and PMPH.

Guidelines & Managing Editor Support: PMPH will send you all required guidelines for your editing work, ie, general guidelines for editing, preferred terminology, herb lists with Chinese, Pinyin and Latin, etc. The managing editors in PMPH will answer your questions in the text, contact the Chinese authors and suggest you reference materials.

Please keep in mind that your name will be on the front cover (or title page) of the book when it is published. This is not the type of job where you are only paid money for your translation. PMPH will not only pay you, but you will be given credit for making the book possible, which in many ways is more valuable than monetary compensation.

Please contact us, if you are interested in the editing work, or you’d like to recommend any qualified editor to us.

The following titles will be edited, and please tell us the one that you are interested in.

1. The Clinical Practice of Chinese Medicine: Dermatomyositis & Scleroderma (about 42,000 characters)
2. The Clinical Practice of Chinese Medicine: Diseases of the Accessory Organs of the Skin (about 74,000 characters)
