"First of all, I think the energy therein refers to the word "Qi" in Chinese origin. What is Qi? It could for sure be understood as the Four Natures of the herbs, but anything more? Maybe.
Those with thick flavors for sure are the ones such as Renshen, Danggui, Huanglian, etc, while those with thin flavors are those such as Fuling, Zhuling, Sangbaipi, etc.
There are eight therapeutic methods in traditional Chinese medicine, warming, clearing, elimintating, tonifying, etc.
So, what you mentioned the damp-heat leading to diarrhea should be treated with clearing method.You have got a very correct understanding."
