Dear Hands, We are told when formulating formulas, new herbs can be added and original herbs should be removed, also in some formulas, concentrations or potencies of certain herbs should be increased.

How do you estimate the weights of the additions? Are there any guidelines?

Dear Wayne,

For sure there are guidelines!

But it's not the right place to discuss it in the internet, neither in the classroom!

If one wants to be a great physician of herbal medicine, he/she must follow a teacher, a very good teacher, in clinic, for some years! Maybe 3 years!

Basically, if one doesn't have this good teacher, he/she could just use the dosage described in the text book for the additions.

Or if he/she has learnt the diagnosis, the syndrome differentiation well, he/she should have an idea how much the addition should be.
