Title: Cinnamon Bark properties - Shaoyao Tang formula

In chapter 5, the Shaoyao Tang (Peony Decoction) formula lists Cinnamon Bark as one of its ingredients.

What are the properties of cinnamon bark? I'm sure they are very similar to the properties of cinnamon twig.

If that's true, is the function of cinnamon bark in the Shaoyao Tang formula to act as an opposing adjuvant to Peony and Coptis roots, avoiding excessive coldness?

Thank you very much!

Dear Serpent,
In fact, it's the Rou Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi Chinese Cassia Bark)which is used nowadays. So you can look up course E for the Interior-heating herbs to see the properties.
Guan Gui, the Cinnamon Bark, the real bark of the tree trunk, is also often used as the relish materials.
Herein as you said, it's acting as an opposing adjuvant to all the bitter and cold materials.
Cinnamon bark is much stronger than the cinnamon twig and they are acting to the different part of the body, the bark acts more on the interior while the twig more on the exterior. For sure the twig can also work more or less on the interior, but not so strong. Anyway, the bark is considered as the interior-heating material while the twig is the exterior releasing material.
