Title: Choice of Acupoints

Dear Dr. King,

Certain acupoints are more popular than other acupoints which have the same effects in treating the same symptoms of illnesses, e.g. Sanyinjian SP6 & Lougu SP7 can treat abdominal distention, borborygmus, dysuria, enuresis, and numbness in the lower limbs. But, I can notice that usually the former is chosen by most acupuncturists. Is there a special reason for such a choice, please? Thanks.

Dear Chenkc,
I'm sorry for answering a bit too late! I've been out of my place for a while so I couldn't manage to answer you thereabout.
For sure some points are more important than the others, as we have mentioned before, it's the same for medicaments. And in the text, some points are especially described as Yuan-Primary, Back-Shu, Luo-Connecting, Shu-Stream, ect.
As in regard of Sanyinjiao (SP 6), it's the meeting point of all the three foot Yin meridians, the Spleen Meridian of Foot Taiyin, Liver Meridian of Foot Jueyin, and Kidney Meridian of Foot Shaoyin, so in another word, it's related with all the three meridians. Thus it's much more used.
Usually, if a point is a site of the convergence of couple of or even several more meridians, it'd be much more used than the others.
Apart from that, in the same meridian, if the points are not really met by other meridians, the ones which are of some special properties as we have mentioned above would be more used.

Bye!
