Arthritis is one of the most common ailments for which Ayurvedic treatment is most effective.Ayurvedic treatment for arthritis involves both internal and external medications. The external therapy include includes ayurvedic panchakarma and kayakalpa treatment procedures for detoxification and rejuvenation. Dietary restrictions form the mainstay of treatment, and physical exercises and yoga are advocated at appropriate stages of recovery. The treatment procedures also focus on strengthening digestive and metabolic systems, by cleansing out the toxins. According to Ayurveda, Arthritis occurs due to aggravation of Vata dosha and is known as ‘Sandhivata’. Here‘ Sandhi’ means ‘joint’. The vata (one of the three bio-regulating principles of the body) is aggravated by various reasons such as improper diet, over exertion, injury, eating of cold food, extreme cold climate, suppression of natural urges, staying awake at night, stress, depression etc. Also ageing is a primary cause, as vata predominance in body increases as age of the person advances towards old age. Individuals with the vata prakruthi are also more prone to arthritis condition. |
