That's only one case for treating diarrhea!
To treat diarrhea there could be many other ways, for example, we can eliminate the damp-heat which is considered as one of the most common caustive factor for the diarrhea.
The downward movement is the contrast to the upward one, while the outward one is compared to the inward one.
So the sweating is the outward movement; and the diarrhea is indeed the downward movement.
To treat the chronic diarrhea, we do use the herbs with the lifting effect, but for the acute ones, it's more important to eliminate the damp-heat, or in another word, to deal the inflammation or the damage of the large intestine in terms of western medicine.
So downward movement is not classified to the outward movement, they are different as I stated above.
