Syndrome differentiation of defensive qi, qi, nutrient qi and blood.
3. Nutrient phase syndrome
Nutrient phase syndrome is the third stage of exogenous epidemic febrile disease. It refers to the syndrome due to internal transmission of pathogenic febrile factors, consuming nutrient Yin and disturbing mind. This syndrome pertains to the severe stage of exogenous epidemic febrile disease.
The character of Nutrient phase is appearance of macules and eruption, vexation, even delirium, which are all caused by long-term high fever.

Clinical manifestations
Severe fever at night, mild thirst, vexation, insomnia, even delirum, appreance of macules and eruption. Deep-red tongue, dry tongue fur and rapid pulse.

Analysis of the symptoms:
Exogenous epidemic febrile factors invade the body, consuming nutrient Yin, which cause high fever at night, thirst, dry tongue fur; deep-red tongue, rapid pulse when Exogenous epidemic febrile factors disturb the mind , vexation, insomnia, even delirium appear. Macules and eruption are due to heat invading blood collaterals.

Dr. Yetianshi, who is the famous doctor in treating febrile disease in Qing dynasty, invented an effective formula, i.e. Qingying Decoction (Construction Clearing-Decoction), Which contains Xijiao(Rhinoceros horn), Shengdi (Dried Rehmannia Root), Xuanshen(Scrophularia Root), Zhuye(blacd bamboo leaf), Maidong(Ophipogon Root), Danshen(Red Sage Root), Huanglian(Coptis Root), Yinhua(Honeysuckle Flower), Lianqiao(Forsvthia Fruit).
