Title: tongue diagnosis

The text describes areas of the tongue that pertain to certain organs. Does that mean for instance, that if there are thorns present but only on the tip area of the tongue, that the heat is concentrated in the heart and lung?

Also, do the abnormal colors appear on certain areas of the tongue and not others? Like it mentioned purple spots on the tongue. Would the area of the tongue where they appear indicate where the stagnation is?

Dear Ed,
In general it is yes!
But we have to see combine the tongue with all the other information, i.e. the pulse, the inquiry, the observation of other parts of the body, and listening and smelling.

So, maybe the purple spots appear in one certain area of tongue, of course we should take the organs related with this area first, but we cannot forget the other parts. So we should pay attention for the coler of the tongue, or the form (shape) of the tongue.

Don't forget in traditional Chinese medicine all the organs could be related more or less.
