Study on Irritating Dry cough of Epidemic Febrile Disease and Differentiation of Syndromes and Treatment

Through the theoretical study on irritating dry cough (IDC) of the epidemic febrile disease and the exploration of Bianzhenglunzhi (BZLZ, diagnosis and treatment based on overall analysis of symptoms and signs, the cause, nature and location of the illness and the patient's physical condition according to the basic theories of TCM), the author realized that IDC was one type of autumn-dryness disease of epidemic febrile disease and also a type of cough of internal medicine. If there is no immediate treatment, the pathogenic factors will attack the interior of the body and result in various disorders. TCM can produce miraculous effect on this disease. Acupuncture and moxibustion has a better effect in treatment of IDC. Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian were mainly selected. The points included: Taixi (KI 30), Feishu (BL l3), Kongzui (LU 6), Lieque (LU 70), Zhaohai (KI 6), Hegu (LI 4), etc. For patients with hemoptysis, add Xuehai (SP l0); with lung heat, adds Yuji (LU 10), uniform reinforcing-reducing method was adopted. Acupuncturing Taxi point was to nourish the stomach yin to cause the body fluid to nourish lung and stop coughing. Acupuncturing Feishu point was to activate the lung-qi and stop coughing. Zhaohai and Lieque were the eight confluence points, Which were frequently used in treatment of throat and chest diseases. Acupuncturing Hegu point was to dispel the wind-heat. The combination of these points had the effect of inducing diaphoresis to dispel wind and nourishing the lung to arrest cough.
